Vancouver, B.C. August 9, 2006. Alto Ventures Ltd. (ATV: TSX.V) is pleased to announce wide intervals of significant gold mineralization, including one intercept of 68 metres (m) grading 1.21 grams gold per tonne (g/t) on its 100% owned Coldstream gold project, Shebandowan, Ontario. Drilling is focused on the partially delineated East Coldstream gold deposit where the Company's principal target is a large, bulk-mineable gold deposit that can be developed by open pit methods. The recent drillholes continue to expand mineralization from drill campaigns by earlier operators and results from the first three holes drilled by Alto as previously reported. (see News Release dated July 6, 2006.)

The East Coldstream gold deposit was discovered by Noranda in 1987 and partially tested along a strike length of 1,200 m in successive drill programs between 1988 and 1991. The deposit is open along strike to the northeast and at depth. Alto's current program is focused on infill drilling between the previous widely-spaced Noranda holes to begin the definition process towards a 43-101 compliant resource at East Coldstream. The thirteen-hole, 2,062 m program also included three holes on the Sanders Zone located 600 m east of the East Coldstream deposit where previous drilling intersected 1.54 g/t gold over 26.5 m. The mineralized sections on the Sanders Zone are currently in the lab for analysis.
The former North Coldstream Copper Mine, operated by Noranda from 1957 to 1965, the East Coldstream gold deposit and other under-explored gold occurrences lie within a broad east-northeast trending mineralized zone for 10 km over the property. This mineralized corridor extends through to the adjacent Moss Lake gold deposit, where Moss Lake Gold Mines Ltd. has reported a historic resource of 60 million tonnes grading 1.1 g/t gold.

Quality Assurance/Quality Control
Core processing included descriptive logging and selection of samples for analyses. The BTW-size cores selected for analyses were sawed in half and one half was delivered to a commercial laboratory for analyses and the other half retained for future reference. Gold assays were performed at Accurassays Laboratories in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The gold assaying method uses a standard Fire Assay with AA finish technique on a 30 gram sub-sample taken from a 500 gram split from the submitted sample. Commercially prepared standards were inserted by Alto every 25 samples to ensure precision of the results. The laboratory ran internal check assays every 10 samples to ensure lab quality control.
